3-1 Type of Operations

The laser marker can be controlled by the following method:
Control by the PC configuration software "Laser Marker NAVI smart"
Establish an online connection of the laser marker and Laser Marker NAVI smart (PC). You can control the operations such
as laser pumping or marking on the Laser Marker NAVI smart screen.
To irradiate the laser by the PC configuration software control, select the marking methods from the followings:
• Test marking
The mode where you execute the laser radiation manually.
Please use this mode when you configure the marking
conditions at the laser marker installation or when you want
to irradiate the laser while editing the marking data by Laser
Marker NAVI smart, such as during the maintenance work.
• RUN mode
Run mode is an operation method to configure the settings of the laser
marker by Laser Marker NAVI smart and to control the marking start
signal from one of the following methods.
• External devices such as switches or sensors connected to I/O
terminal
• Clicking the marking start button of the Laser Marker NAVI smart
screen
Use this operation mode to configure the laser marker without using
the external control devices as PLC.
• Refer to "3-3-6 Test marking and RUN mode" (P.82).
• You can edit marking data with Laser Marker NAVI smart even when it is not connected to the laser marker (offline).
• For the operation method of Laser Marker NAVI smart, please refer to the "Laser Marker NAVI smart Operation Manual".
Control by external devices (remote control mode)
The operation method for automatic control.
I/O or communication commands control the operations such as
laser pumping and marking by connecting the laser marker to the
external control device as PLC.
The following external control methods are available. These controls
can be combined.
• I/O control
• Communication command control (RS-232C/Ethernet)
• Link control with image checker (Ethernet)
• Link control with code reader (RS-232C)
• Control by the optional industrial network (EtherNet/IP or
PROFINET)
• For details on the external control, refer to "3-4 Operation by External Devices" (P.84).
• The link control with an image checker is not available at on-the-fly marking.
• Be sure to evaluate the marking quality and operation before starting full-scale operation. Changing parameters may
cause unintended results.
