10.6 Software RAID Utility
10.6.1 Overview
The software RAID utility can be used to check the condition of RAID1 and rebuild RAID1
while the OS is inactive. The software RAID utility is one of the tools on the recovery DVD.
The functions provided by the software RAID utility are as follows:
(1) Displaying the conditions of the RAID1
This function displays the current status of RAID1. The status is shown in the menu
window when the software RAID utility is started.
(2) Rebuilding RAID1
This function rebuilds RAID1. You can perform rebuilding while the OS is inactive and
complete the rebuild processing faster than while the OS is active. Use this function when
you do not want to run the OS or when you want to reduce the maintenance time.
(3) Checking consistency
This function performs data matching for all areas of the drives in drive bay 1 and drive
bay 2. You can use this function during periodic inspections to increase the availability of
the equipment.
(4) Creating an array
This function edits the RAID1 management information of drives and creates an array with
two drives. Use this function when restoring backup data by using commercially available
backup software.
(5) Initializing drives
This function initializes the configuration information of a drive that has been used as in a
RAID1 to reset it as an initialized drive. Use this function when you want to reuse a drive
that has been used as a backup drive, or when you accidentally take a normal drive offline.
