Running the System Diagnostics If you experience a problem with your system, run the diagnostics before calling for technical assistance. The purpose of the diagnostics is to test your system's hardware without requiring additional equipment or risking data loss. If you are unable to fix the problem yourself, service and support personnel can use diagnostics test results to help you solve the problem.
System Diagnostics Testing Options Click the testing option in the Main Menu window. Testing Option Function Express Test Performs a quick check of the system. This option runs device tests that do not require user interaction. Extended Test Performs a more thorough check of the system. This test can take an hour or longer.
• Test Iterations—Selects the number of times the test is run. • Log Output File Pathname—Enables you to specify the diskette drive or USB memory key where the test log file is saved. You cannot save the file to a hard drive. Viewing Information and Results The following tabs in the Customize window provide information about the test and the test results:...
Jumpers and Connectors This section provides specific information about the system jumpers. It also provides some basic information on jumpers and switches and describes the connectors on the system board. System Board Jumpers shows the location of the configuration jumpers on the system Figure 5-1 board.
Disabling a Forgotten Password The system's software security features include a system password and a setup password. The password jumper enables these password features or disables them and clears any password(s) currently in use. CAUTION: See “Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge” in the safety instructions that came with the system.
NOTE: If you do not have an active Internet connection, you can find contact information on your purchase invoice, packing slip, bill, or Dell product catalog. Dell provides several online and telephone-based support and service options. Availability varies by country and product, and some services may not be available in your area.
