Product description
3.2 Functional scope
Overload
The "Overload" function makes it possible to briefly achieve a power that is greater than rated
system power within the overload capability of the SINAMICS DCPs and the connected battery.
This function is useful for coping with short-term power increases (e.g. during accelerating
processes for electrical crane axes). The maximum achievable power depends on the
dimensioning and the load cycle.
Note
You can find details about the dimensioning and application of SINAMICS DCPs in the operating
instructions "SINAMICS DCP DC Power Converter" (see section Description of SIMOCRANE Energy
Storage System Management (Page 21)).
Service function
The Service function provides support when commissioning the energy storage system. The
Service function allows you to set important parameters, limits and setpoints. In this case, the
energy storage system is controlled from the local operator station.
Note
A local control console in the form of an HMI (Human Machine Interface) panel is an essential
requirement for commissioning SIMOCRANE ESSM.
Emergency mode
The "Emergency" mode function permits operation with one or more faulted power converters
within the parallel connection. Faulted SINAMICS DCPs can be deselected via the operator
interface (remote/local) to ensure availability of the crane system. At least one fully functional
power converter must be present in the system however.
Dynamic SOC limitation
Dynamic SOC limitation ensures that the battery is operated within a precise, parameterized
"State Of Charge" (SOC) window. The permissible SOC range of the battery depends on the
application and must be taken into account when dimensioning the energy storage device.
Hardware and process value monitoring
Dynamic hardware monitoring is integrated in SIMOCRANE ESSM. This dynamic hardware
monitoring serves to protect the SINAMICS DCPs and the energy storage device. All switching
operations of contactors and circuit breakers, as well as specified limits are permanently
monitored. If a fault is detected, e.g. an upward limit violation of battery current/voltage, a
request to immediately disconnect the battery is issued.
