4. MAINTENANCE

Proper and regular maintenance is very important in order to ensure trouble free operation of the
Hydraulic Retrieval Tool, and to keep it in good operating condition over a long period of time.
For the Hydraulic Retreival Tool and the Service Valve, Roxar recommends complete maintenance and
pressure test (1x design pressure) to be carried out every second year. Bolts should be changed during
this biennial maintenance.

4.1 Routine inspection before use

After a storage period, the tool must be checked to ensure that it is in operational condition before
being used. The check point described in this section assume the retriever has been properly cleaned
and maintained after its last use. If in doubt, follow the maintenance instructions in chapter 4.4
Maintenance after use
If the tool is to be used over a period of several days, this check should also be performed daily, before
the first retrieval operation is commenced.
1. Inspection the different components, and verify that all are clean and undamaged.
2. Check that O-rings are in place at the bottom of the service valve and on the union thread adapter.
3. Check that bypass valves and bleed valves are operating properly.
4. For the service valve, close and open both balls to verify functionality.
5. Do a functional test of the hydraulic retriever to ensure that internal seals are undamaged and bleed
valve is not obstructed.
Connect both hoses from the pump to the retriever.
Set the pump to "INSTALL", and start pumping.
The rod shall extend with a smooth and even movement.
When the rod is fully extended, do a visual inspection: bleed-off valve and pressure
gauge taps shall be visible;
Open the bleed-off valve and, by using WD40 or similar pressurized lubricant, make
sure the tap is dis-obstructed. Close the bleed-off valve;
If in doubt if the pressure gauge is fully functional and dis-obstructed, perform the
test described in chapter 4.2 Routine Maintenance;
Continue to pump until the pressure gauge on the pump shows 100 bar.
Leave the pressure on for 1-2 minutes, to see that it stabilizes and does not drop
significantly.
Set the pump to "RETRIEVE", and pump until the connecting rod is fully retracted.
The rod should retract with a smooth and even movement.
Continue to pump until the pressure gauge on the pump shows 100 bar.
Leave the pressure on for 1-2 minutes, to see that it stabilizes and does not drop
significantly.
