This unit takes power supply from the cigarette lighter socket, and supplies
it to Walkman.
* Walkman operation while charging varies depending on the Walkman.
AUDIO OUT jack equipped
This unit outputs the audio signal to other car audio devices, such as car FM
transmitter, car cassette audio adaptor, car audio unit's AUX IN, etc. so that
you can enjoy listening to the sound from connected Walkman in a car.
Equipped with audio output level switch
Output level from the AUDIO OUT jack can be switched to HIGH or LOW.
Note
Connects to a 12 V DC car battery (only for negative # grounded cars) only.
This unit cannot be connected to a 24 V DC car battery.
How to Use
Be sure to use this unit with the engine of the car running. If this unit is left
plugged into the cigarette lighter socket when the engine is not running,
power may be consumed from the car battery.
Notes
• Ensure that this unit is safely installed so as not to interfere with the
operation of the accelerator or gears.
• Never perform connection and operation while your car is in motion.
• For details about the connected device, refer to the operating instructions
supplied with each device.
Install the unit

Connect the WM-PORT connector to the WM-PORT of
your Walkman. (See fig. A.)

Insert this unit into the cigarette lighter socket. (See fig. B.)
The indicator lights up.
If this unit is not inserted fully, the indicator does not light up.
Note
If there is any obstructions around the cigarette lighter socket, rotate this
unit to avoid them when installed.
Listening to sound played on the Walkman
By connecting a peripheral device to the AUDIO OUT jack of this unit
using an optional audio cable, you can listen to the sound played on the
Walkman through the car audio unit.
Peripheral devices:
FM Transmitter for Car Radio, car audio cassette adaptor, car audio
unit equipped with auxiliary input, etc.

Connect a peripheral device to the AUDIO OUT jack of this
unit using an optional audio cable. (See fig. C.)
For details on connection, refer to the operating instructions supplied
with the device.

Operate the OUTPUT LEVEL switch according to the
connected device.
• Car audio unit equipped with AUX input: HIGH
• Other devices: LOW

Start playing on the Walkman.
Note
While connected to this unit, you cannot adjust the volume on the
Walkman. Adjust the volume on the car audio unit.
Charge your Walkman
Walkman operation while charging varies depending on the Walkman.

Set the Walkman to recharge.
It may not be necessary to set the Walkman to recharge. (See
Walkman's Operation Guide.)

When charging is finished, disconnect the Walkman from
this unit.
Notes
• Plug securely into the cigarette lighter socket.
• This unit may not fit, depending on the location or shape of the cigarette
lighter socket.
• Be careful to route all the cables properly so that:
– they will not interfere with your driving.
– they will be out of the reach of children.
• Install this unit in a manner that will not hinder the airbag function in an
emergency.
• Do not use the device in a place subject to liquid or moisture to avoid fire
or electric shock.
• Do not place this unit or the Walkman in a location where it is subject to
extreme high temperature. It mat result in damage.
While not using this unit
To avoid unnecessary car battery consumption, unplug this unit from the
cigarette lighter socket when not in use.
When you turn the car engine off
Unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket whenever the engine of
the car is not running. Depending on the car type, even if the engine is off,
the power supply may not turn off automatically. In this case, this may
cause unnecessary car battery consumption.
Fuse Replacement
If this unit does not work correctly (if the indicator does not light up),
check the fuse in the cigarette lighter plug.
If the fuse is blown, replace it. (See fig. D.)

Pull this unit out of the cigarette lighter socket.

Detach the end of the plug by turning it counter-clockwise.

Take out the fuse.

Check the fuse.
If the fuse is blown, go to Step 5.
If no fuse is blown, go to Step 6.

Install a new fuse.
Use a fuse of the correct amperage, as stated on the fuse compartment
of this unit (1 A, 125 V, 20 mm).

Insert the fuse.

Reattach the end of the plug by turning it clockwise firmly.
Notes
• Use of a higher amperage fuse may cause serious damage or fire.
• Do not use a piece of wire instead of a fuse.
• If the replaced fuse blows again, consult your dealer.
Precautions
On safety
• Do not connect or operate this unit, a car audio unit, or a portable device
while driving or waiting at a traffic signal. Park in a safe place first.
• Unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket whenever the engine of
the car is not running. Depending on the car type, even if the ignition key
is off, the power supply may not turn off automatically. In this case, this
may cause unnecessary car battery consumption.
• When not in use, unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket and
store in a safe place where it will not interfere with your driving or
become entangled in parts of the car interior (seat, door, etc.). To
disconnect the unit, grasp the unit and pull it. Never pull the cord
connected to the unit.
• Should any liquid or solid object fall into the unit, disconnect the unit
from the cigarette lighter socket and the equipment and have the unit
checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
Installation
• Do not place this unit in a location where it is:
– subject to extreme high temperature.
– subject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.
– subject to mechanical vibration or shock.
– subject to excessive dust.
• Be sure to fully secure the connected device connected to the unit to
avoid moving when braking.
Operation
• Never yank or pull the cables. This may cause malfunctions or wire
breaks.
• To prevent damage, be careful not to drop or hit the unit. This may cause
a mechanical shock or malfunctions to the unit.
• This unit may become warm while using. This is not a malfunction.
• After using, disconnect the unit from the cigarette lighter socket and the
equipment.
On charging
• Make sure the current and voltage of the Walkman rechargeable device
match the outlet.
• For safety, if the input current is too high, the unit will automatically shut
down.
• To avoid short-circuiting, do not allow the terminals of the unit or
connector to touch any metal object.
• Note that data stored in the Walkman connected to this unit may be lost
or damaged if the engine is started or stopped with this unit inserted into
the cigarette lighter socket.
Troubleshooting
Should any problem persist after you have made the following checks,
consult your nearest Sony dealer.
There is no sound from the Walkman to the car audio unit.
❒ The indicator does not light up.
❒ This unit is not fully plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.
c Insert this unit correctly and securely.
❒ There is no sound from the connecting Walkman.
c Start playback on the Walkman.
c Set the volume control of the car audio unit as high as possible but
not so high that the audio signal becomes distorted.
The volume is low.
❒ The volume of the Walkman is too low.
c Set the volume control of the car audio unit as high as possible but
not so high that the audio signal becomes distorted.
❒ The OUTPUT LEVEL switch of this unit is set to LOW.
c Set the OUTPUT LEVEL switch to HIGH.
The sound is distorted.
❒ The OUTPUT LEVEL switch of this unit is set to HIGH.
c Set the OUTPUT LEVEL switch to LOW.
The indicator of this unit does not light up.
❒ This unit is not completely plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.
c Insert this unit correctly and securely.
❒ Depending on the car type, the engine must be started for electric
current to flow to the cigarette lighter socket.
c Start the engine.
❒ The fuse is blown.
c Replace the fuse.

Doté d'une prise AUDIO OUT
Cet appareil émet le signal audio vers les autres périphériques audio de la
voiture comme un émetteur FM de voiture, un adaptateur d'autoradio
cassette, la prise AUX IN de l'autoradio, etc. de sorte à ce que le son soit
émis par le Walkman raccordé à la voiture.
Doté d'un commutateur du niveau de sortie audio
Le niveau de sortie de la prise AUDIO OUT peut être commuté sur HIGH
ou LOW.
Remarque
Se raccorde uniquement à une batterie de voiture 12 V CC (uniquement
pour les voitures avec mise à la masse négative #).
Cet appareil ne peut pas être raccordé à une batterie de voiture 24 V CC.
Utilisation
Veillez à utiliser cet appareil pendant que le moteur du véhicule tourne. Si
cet appareil reste connecté à l'allume-cigare alors que le moteur du
véhicule est coupé, la batterie du véhicule risque de se décharger.
Remarques
• Assurez-vous que cet appareil est correctement installé pour ne pas gêner
le fonctionnement de l'accélérateur ou du levier de vitesses.
• N'effectuez jamais de raccordements ni de manipulations pendant que
votre voiture roule.
• Pour plus de détails sur le périphérique raccordé, reportez-vous au mode
d'emploi fourni avec chaque périphérique.
Installez l'appareil

Raccordez le connecteur WM-PORT au WM-PORT de
votre Walkman. (Voir fig. A)

Insérez cet appareil dans l'allume-cigare. (Voir fig. B)
Le témoin s'allume.
Si cet appareil n'est pas inséré correctement, le témoin ne s'allume
pas.
Remarque
S'il y a des obstacles autour de l'allume-cigare, pivotez cet appareil afin de
les éviter lorsqu'il est installé.
Ecoute des données audio lues sur le
Walkman
En raccordant un périphérique à la prise AUDIO OUT de cet appareil à
l'aide d'un câble audio en option, vous pouvez écouter les données audio
lues sur le Walkman via l'autoradio.
Périphériques :
Emetteur FM pour autoradio, adaptateur d'autoradio cassette,
autoradio doté d'une entré auxiliaire, etc.

Raccordez un périphérique à la prise AUDIO OUT de cet
appareil à l'aide d'un câble audio en option. (Voir fig. C)
Pour plus d'informations sur le raccordement, reportez-vous au mode
d'emploi fourni avec le périphérique.

Réglez le commutateur OUTPUT LEVEL en fonction du
périphérique raccordé.
• Autoradio doté d'une entrée AUX : HIGH
• Autres périphériques : LOW

Lancez la lecture sur le Walkman.
Remarque
Vous ne pouvez pas régler le son sur le Walkman lorsqu'il est raccordé à
cet appareil. Réglez le volume sur l'autoradio.
Charge du Walkman
Le fonctionnement du Walkman en cours de charge dépend du Walkman.

Mettez le Walkman à recharger.
Toutefois, ceci peut s'avérer inutile. (Reportez-vous au Mode
d'emploi du Walkman.)

Lorsque la charge est terminée, débranchez le Walkman de
cet appareil.
Remarques
• Veillez à brancher cet appareil correctement dans l'allume-cigare.
• Il est possible que cet appareil ne puisse pas être inséré, selon la position
ou la forme de l'allume-cigare.
• Veillez à acheminer les câbles correctement de sorte que :
– ils ne gênent pas la conduite ;
– ils soient hors de portée des enfants.
• Installez l'appareil de sorte qu'il n'entrave pas le fonctionnement de
l'airbag en cas d'urgence.
• N'utilisez pas l'appareil dans un endroit soumis à des projections liquides
ou à l'humidité afin d'éviter tout risque d'incendie ou d'électrocution.
• N'installez pas cet appareil ou le Walkman dans un endroit exposé à de
très hautes températures. Cela risquerait de les endommager.
Lorsque vous n'utilisez pas cet appareil
Pour éviter toute consommation d'énergie inutile, débranchez cet appareil
de l'allume-cigare quand vous ne l'utilisez pas.
Lorsque vous coupez le moteur du véhicule
Débranchez cet appareil de l'allume-cigare dès que le moteur du véhicule
est coupé. Selon le type de véhicule, l'alimentation n'est pas coupée
automatiquement même si le moteur est coupé. Dans ce cas, ceci peut
entraîner une consommation inutile de la batterie du véhicule.
