4.5 Precautions Regarding Security Enhancement Functionality
(1) Unblocking for the Windows firewall
For Windows® XP Service Pack 2 and later, the Windows firewall is enabled by default.
This means that network connections are blocked for programs using the network, possibly
preventing program operation. In this case, one of the following three methods can be used
to unblock programs from the Windows firewall.
(a) Disable the Windows firewall
(b) Register target programs as exceptions
(c) Register used ports as exceptions
The following shows the procedures for each setting.
(a) Disabling the Windows firewall
Perform the following procedures to disable the Windows firewall. This will unblock
network connections for all programs.
For Windows® XP
1. Log on as a computer administrator if not already logged on as such.
2. Click the [Start] button, and then choose [Control Panel].
3. In the [Control Panel] window, click [Security Center].
4. The [Windows Security Center] window is displayed.
• Click [Windows Firewall].
5. The [Windows Firewall] window is displayed.
• Click the [General] tab, and select "Off (not recommended)".
• Click the [OK] button.
6. Close the [Windows Security Center] window.
7. Close the [Control Panel] window.
