Replacing a CD, Zip, or Other External Drive 1. Attach the new drive to the drive bracket. Turn the drive upside down, and fit the bracket on the drive so that the screw holes align. To ensure proper installation, all screw holes should be aligned and the tabs on the front of the bracket should be flush with the front of the drive (see "Removing the Drive from the Bracket").

NOTE: If you are installing a microprocessor upgrade kit from Dell, return the original heat sink assembly and microprocessor package to Dell in the same package in which your upgrade kit was sent. Your microprocessor upgrade kit should include a replacement microprocessor heat sink and two replacement securing clips.
To remove the microprocessor, pull the socket lever straight up until the microprocessor is released. Then remove the microprocessor from the socket. Doing so can cause the microprocessor to overheat because of an inadequate amount of thermal compound between the heat sink assembly and the microprocessor package.
