4.3 Karabiners

Each bridle leg terminates with a locking karabiner
(Figure 4).
To operate the karabiner:
1. Holding the karabiner firmly in your hand, push
the gate barrel of the karabiner away (downward)
from the strap end of the karabiner (Figure 5)
2. While pushing the karabiner barrel downward,
twist the gate barrel anti-clockwise (Figure 6)
3. Once the gate barrel has been twisted open, push
gate barrel towards the spine of the karabiner.
Keeping the gate depressed, remove or inset
karabiner into KED Pro lifting handle (Figure 7).
4. When this operation is complete, release the kara-
biner gate and the unit will automatically close
and lock (Figure 8).
Note: Normally, a karabiner is oriented
with the gate toward the inside of the KED
to prevent the gate being opened by rubbing
against a cliff face, building, rock or other
element encountered during a rescue.
However, certain situations may dictate the
opposite orientation. It is the responsibility
of the user to know which orientation is best
suited to a given situation.
