    Introduction The Dell EMC PowerEdge R940 is a latest 4-socket, 3U monolithic rack server designed to run complex workloads using highly scalable memory, I/O, and network options. The system features the Intel Xeon Processor Scalable family, with up to 48 DDR4 DIMMs, up to 13 PCI Express (PCIe) 3.0 enabled expansion slots, and a choice of embedded NIC technologies.

From that database the QRL website pulls warranty info and factory configuration details. After viewing this, the customer can move on to the product page.

    Supported Memory The PowerEdge R940 supports up to 48 DIMM slots, with up to 6 TB of memory and speeds up to 2666 MT/s. Supported DIMMs are registered (RDIMMs) and load reduced (LRDIMMs) DIMMs which uses a buffer to reduce memory loading and provide greater density allowing maximum memory capacity.

    + IDSDM The IDSDM with vflash module has a dedicated slot at the back of the system chassis. This is a Dell-proprietary PCIe x1 slot that uses a USB 3.0 interface to host. In the system, the IDSDM and vflash card size changes from SD to microSD and the supported capacity for IDSDM microSD cards are 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB, while for vflash the capacity is 16 GB only.

    • The user does not to trade off the standard hot-plug hard drive slot for OS install. BOSS is a PCIe card in the front to support up to two 80mm or 110mm M.2 SATA or PCIe x1 devices. NOTE: The portfolio solution using a PCIe carrier card is not supported on R940.

    Networking and PCIe The PowerEdge R940 offer balanced, scalable I/O capabilities including integrated PCIe 3.0 expansion slots. Dell network adapters and daughtercards let you choose the right network fabric without using up valuable PCI slots. Pick the speed, technology, vendor and other options such as switching independent partitioning lets you share and manage bandwidth on 10 Gbe connections.
