1 Overview of HP 3PAR-to-3PAR Storage Peer Motion About Peer Motion HP 3PAR Peer Motion controls the migration of a host and its data from a source system to a destination system with as little disruption to the host as possible. With Peer Motion, you can copy the virtual volumes and system configuration information to a new system with no changes to host configurations, no loss of access by a host to its data in an online migration, and only a minimal outage during a minimally disruptive migration. -

Offline — With offline migration, volumes are not actively exported, and there is no access to the data throughout the migration process. The hosts can be exported any time after the migration by using the HP 3PAR OS export commands. -

Create and edit the domains, hosts, CPGs, and so on, on the destination system. Launch the Data Migration wizard to perform volume migration from the source system to the destination system. After the data migration is successful, perform the Remove PM Configuration operation on the source system. -

2 Preparing for Data Migration System Requirements Installation Requirements The following requirements must be satisfied to install Peer Motion: There must be access to the HP Software Depot at http://www.software.hp.com. The host computer must have access to the destination system. The HP 3PAR user account must have Super user rights. -

WARNING! On Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2 and non-R2, do not use the mpclaim CLI command or attempt to display the MPIO information via the Disk Management GUI during the Peer Motion migration admitvv stage. Doing so will result in the host becoming unresponsive. -

Pre-Migration Constraints The source system in a Peer Motion operation should run HP 3PAR OS 2.3.1, 3.1.1, or 3.1.2. The destination system must run HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 or 3.1.2. That system can be an F-, a T-, or a V-class. E-class and S-class systems can only be source systems, because they cannot run HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 or 3.1.2. -

3 Using the Peer Motion Manager The HP 3PAR Peer Motion Manager enables users to perform the following Peer Motion operations: Display the source and destination configurations. Migrating Data To use the Migrate Data wizard, the following conditions are required: Super user role Peer Motion license Any Peer Motion configuration that includes a source and destination system whose status is Normal and that has no other admitted or importing volumes. Perform the following tasks before using the wizard: Configure the data migration process by using the Create PM Configuration wizard. -

If the system is using online migration or minimally disruptive migration, select the Host, Host Set, or Linked Hosts for which you want to migrate virtual volumes to the destination system. NOTE: All virtual volumes exported to overlapping hosts (Linked Hosts) must be exported. For example: VV1 is exported to Host1, VV2 is exported to Host2 and Host3, and VV3 is exported to Host1 and Host3. -

Select a User CPG (required) and Copy CPG (optional). NOTE: If there is no CPG available for the specified domain, you must exit the wizard and create the CPG first. If you selected Copy CPG, you have the option of selecting the Create virtual copies after importing volumes check box. -

Click Verify. If the system zoning is correct, a confirmation message appears. If the zoning is incorrect, a message appears that describes the issue. Click OK to exit the Verify dialog box. Click Continue. After the systems are zoned correctly, the importing tasks start. Minimally Disruptive Data Migration Confirmation Shut down the host system. -

If you are using offline migration, click Finish to create the peer volumes and start the import volumes task. If you are using online or minimally disruptive migration, click Finish to create the peer volumes. One of the following confirmation dialogs appears, depending on the migration type: “Online Data Migration Confirmation”... - Page 24 To remove peer volumes: Select Peer Motion in the Manger Pane. In the Common Actions panel, click Remove Peer Volumes. The Remove Peer Volumes dialog box appears. Select the Select to also delete check box if you want to delete any listed volumes currently exported to a host and listed volumes that are part of a volume set.

Post Migration Cleanup The Post Migration Cleanup feature does the following: Unexport all Peer Motion-migrated volumes from the migration host. Remove the VLUNs associated with the volumes being unexported. Remove the migration host from the source system. NOTE: The migration host is an interim host created by the Peer Motion process. Therefore, migration cleanup is not complete until the migration host is removed from the source system. - Page 26 Click OK. Viewing a Peer Motion Configuration To view the current Peer Motion configuration: Select a storage system in the Management Tree. Select Peer Motion in the Manager Pane. The Peer Motion Configuration tree node appears. The Peer Motion Configuration window contains a Summary tab, a Tasks tab, and an Alerts tab. -

A Migrating Secondary Asynchronous Periodic Remote Copy Volume Groups Peer Motion allows the seamless migration of data from a legacy system to a modern array. This appendix describes the procedures for migrating secondary-storage Remote Copy volumes to a new system by using Peer Motion. When configuring peer motion, it may be necessary to make modifications to the FC switch, as the WWNs will change when moving from peer nodes to host modes. - Page 61 On the source system, re-admit the primary virtual volume into the original periodic group and restart the group.
