    The DRM-5004X is a 500 disc CD-ROM jukebox. It has the capacity to hold 500 CD-ROM, CD-DA, CD-R or CD-ROM XA discs and to select any one of them for playback at speeds up to 4X. With a Pioneer CD-R Writer installed, the unit can also write to CD-R discs.

  • Page 17 Overview 1.1.5 The Pioneer CD-ROM Reader The Pioneer CD-ROM reader DR-D504X is a 4X speed CD-ROM drive and includes audio outputs for CD-DA. (When digital audio is present, the drive automatically outputs audio at single speed.) On the rear panel, there are also four sets of stereo audio outputs, one for each of up to four drives installed.

  • Page 34 5. Setting SCSI ID Connector - This (4 pin) connector is used to connect the SCSI ID switches on the rear panel of the DRM-5004X and to convey the SCSI ID setting to the Reader. 6. Controller Connector - This (5 pin) connector attaches the DR-D504X to the controller board and conveys drive presence and clamp status to the main CPU.

    Set Up 3.4 Unpacking the DRM-5004X The DRM-5004X and its accessories are shipped in two boxes. Box one contains the DRM-5004X unit and its accessories. Box two con- tains the disc magazines and their accessories. See Figure 3-1, Packing of the DRM-5004X.

    The shipping plates must be removed from the disc magazines for normal operation of the DRM-5004X. They can be stored inside the front door recess. See Figure 3-9, Storing Shipping Plates.

    After loading the discs into the disc magazines as described in Section 3.6 Loading Discs into the Disc Magazines, the magazines are ready to be loaded in the DRM-5004X. Follow the directions below to load the disc magazines into the changer: 1.

  • Page 50 Set Up Setting the SCSI Identification SCSI IDs for the drives installed into the DRM-5004X must be set using the SCSI ID switches on the connection board located on the middle rear panel. The SCSI IDs can also be entered into the memory of the DRM-5004X for access by software, by using the Mode Setting buttons on the inside front right rail.

  • Page 52 Set Up 3.8.2 Setting SCSI IDs using the Mode Setting Buttons Control software is often written to query the DRM-5004X for the SCSI IDs of the different drives and the changer mechanism controller inside the unit. The Mode Setting Buttons located on the inside right front rail of the unit can be used to manually input the SCSI ID numbers of each Drive.

    Set Up Enabling/Disabling the Disc Transporter Light There is a jumper pin on the DRM-5004X’s Main Power Board behind the Rear Upper Panel that enables or disables the Disc Transporter light, the green light on the front of the disc transporter that indicates the disc transporter is in motion.

    Set Up 3.11 Confirming Proper Set-up of the DRM-5004X Several tests can be done to confirm that the DRM-5004X with two readers installed in a basic configuration has been set up correctly. These tests are done without connecting a computer to the DRM-5004X.

    Custom Configuration 4.3 Confirming Proper Installation of the DR-D504X Several tests can be done to confirm that the DRM-5004X with an addi- tional reader installed has been set up correctly. These tests are done without connecting a computer to the DRM-5004X. For complete Test Mode Diagnostics, see Chapter 5, Test Mode.
