ENGINE / COOLING SYSTEM
2. With no power supplied, pressure will flow from the
compressor housing line to the boost control valve.
The boost control valve will send pressure to the
wastegate actuator. No pressure should be seen at
the vent line.

ACTUATOR / WASTEGATE

Reference Actuator / Wastegate Inspection page 3.28
outlined in this chapter.

BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR HARNESS

1. Connect to Digital Wrench. Start the engine and
monitor the Boost Pressure reading while wiggling
the wiring near the connector. The reading will dive/
spike if a bad connections is found. Or gently pull
wires at connector to see if they easily break.
NOTICE
Wire insulation may conceal broken sensor wiring.
Vibration from the running engine will cause boost
pressure signal to drift low and set fault codes.

TURBOCHARGER

Inspect the turbocharger for:
• Damaged compressor from dirt ingestion.
• Failed turbocharger bearings.
• Wastegate flapper broken or missing.
• An excessive amount of oil in intake/exhaust is a sign
of bad seals. This creates oil residue in the intake/
exhaust, plugging the intake/exhaust and damaging
sensors.

EXHAUST

Inspect the exhaust system for:
• Clogged spark arrestor.
• Damaged catalytic converter (use inspection mirror or
borescope).
