    Section 1 - Product Overview Features • Superior Wireless Networking - The DIR-878 provides Gigabit wireless speeds of up to a combined 1900 Mbps (1300 Mbps 802.11ac 5 GHz, plus 600 Mbps 802.11n 2.4 GHz) . This capability rivals wired connections, allowing users to participate in real-time activities online, such as HD video communication, online gaming, and use mobile devices from anywhere in your home while still offering full 802.11n/g/b backward compatibility.

    A solid light indicates a connection on the Internet port. If the LED is orange, the router cannot connect to the Internet LED Internet.     Section 3 - Installation Installation This section will walk you through the installation of the DIR-878. Before you Begin • Placement of the router is very important. Do not place the router in an enclosed area such as a closet, cabinet, attic, or garage.

    1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the D-Link router and other network devices to a minimum - each wall or ceiling can reduce your adapter’s range from 3-90 feet (1-30 meters.) Position your devices so that the number of walls or ceilings is minimized.

    Section 3 - Installation Hardware Setup 1. The DIR-878 is designed to give you the fastest, most stable network connection possible. In order to maximize performance, fully extend the antennas into a 105 degree angle to provide optimal wireless coverage. Keep the router in an open area for better wireless coverage.

  • Page 16 Section 3 - Installation 7. If you are configuring the DIR-878 wirelessly from a PC, connect to the Wi-Fi network printed on the label attached to the bottom of your router. Modem DIR-878 If you are configuring the DIR-878 from a PC with a wired Ethernet connection, plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the port labeled 1 on the back of the router, and the other end into the Ethernet port on your computer.

    • D-Link Wi-Fi App - Use your Android device, iPhone, or iPad to configure your router. Refer to D-Link Wi-Fi App on page 14. • D-Link Setup Wizard - This wizard will launch when you log into the router for the first time. Refer to Setup Wizard on page 16.

    Note: The screenshots may be different depending on your mobile device’s OS version. The following steps show the iOS interface of the D-Link Wi-Fi app. If you are using an Android™ device, the appearance may be different from that of the screenshots, but the process is the same.

    Section 5 - Quick VPN Quick VPN This router is equipped with D-Link's Quick VPN technology. Virtual Private Networking (VPN) creates a connection between devices across the Internet. Using Quick VPN allows you to securely connect your computer or mobile device to places with free, untrusted Wi-Fi hotspots in places like coffee shops and hotels by encrypting and relaying it through your home Internet connection.
