    This product was manufactured using the highest quality components and standards of workmanship. It was tested by Emerson inspectors and found to be in perfect working order before it left our factory. However, there is always the chance that some problem may occur because of rough handling during shipment to the retail store or to the final consumer.

    PREPARATION FOR USE UNPACKING AND SET UP • This system consists of the following components: 1.) Tuner/Amp/CD Player (main unit), 2.) 2 Sound Cylinder Speakers, 3.) Powered Subwoofer unit, subwoofer connection cable, and Remote Control. Carefully remove all the components from the display carton and verify that you have all the necessary components before you dispose of the display carton.

    POWER SOURCE The main unit and subwoofer of this system are designed to operate on 120V AC 60Hz house current only. Connecting this system to any other power source may cause damage to the system and such damage is not covered by your warranty. NOTE: The units have polarized AC plugs with one wide blade and one narrow blade.

    SPEAKER CONNECTIONS Sound Cylinder Speakers Connect the two Sound Cylinder speakers to the “L” and “R” speaker jacks on the back of the main unit.     POSITIONING THE SPEAKERS For the most pleasing sound effects you should place the subwoofer speaker approximately mid-way between the two Sound Cylinder speakers. The Sound Cylinder speakers can be positioned close to the main unit or as far away as the speaker cables will allow.
  • Page 11 AUXILIARY SOURCE CONNECTIONS You can listen to the sound from external audio sources through the speakers of this system. Connect the Aux/Line/Audio Output Jacks of the external audio source to the Aux/Line Input Jacks on the back panel of this system. Note: Connection cables are not included.

    INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL BATTERIES 1.) Press down on the locking tab and remove the battery door. 2.) Insert two “AAA” batteries (not included) in the compartment. Follow the polarity markings engraved inside the compartment. If the batteries are inserted incorrectly the remote control will not work.

    INSTALLING THE CLOCK AND TUNER MEMORY BACK UP BATTERIES This system includes a battery back up circuit for the clock and preset tuner memories. The clock and tuner preset memory battery back up compartment is located on the back panel of the main unit. 1.) Press upward on the locking tab and remove the battery door.

    REMOTE CONTROL 1.) VOL (Volume) Button – Press to increase volume. 2.) TUNER/BAND Button – Press to switch to Tuner mode or to select band (FM or AM). 3.) SKIP/SEARCH Forward Button. • In CD mode, press to skip or search forward. •In TUNER mode, press to tune upward.

  • Page 21 4.) Press the TUNING/SKIP-SEARCH UP panel of the main unit or on the remote control to set the display to the correct minutes. 5.) Press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button once more. The time display stops flashing and the clock begins to run. Note: You must press the TUNING/SKIP-SEARCH UP to adjust the time display within 8 seconds after you press the MEMORY/CLOCK SET button, otherwise the digits will stop flashing and the time cannot be adjusted.

    LISTENING TO THE RADIO 1.) Press the POWER/STANDBY button on the main unit or the remote control. The main display turns on. 2.) If necessary, press the TUNER/BAND button on the top panel of the main unit or the remote control to select the Tuner function.

    ANTENNA INFORMATION Make sure the FM lead wire antenna is unwound and extended to its full length. It may be necessary to vary the direction of this wire antenna until you find the position that provides the best reception for your favorite FM stations.     PRE-SETTING STATIONS IN THE TUNER MEMORY This system includes a 32 station preset memory. You can store up to 20 FM stations and 12 AM stations in the tuner memory for immediate recall. The procedure for storing stations in memory is as follows: 1.) Follow step 3 under LISTENING TO THE RADIO in page 19 to select the first station you wish to memorize.

    RECALLING PRESET STATIONS Turn the system ‘ On’ and select the desired band. Press the PRESET UP/REPREAT button on the front panel or the remote control repeatedly to scroll through the preset memories until the display shows the desired station. CHANGING PRESET STATIONS To change any preset station memory select the desired band and tune to the new station you wish to memorize.

    PLAYING COMPACT DISCS Notes: A.) You must remove the ‘ dummy CD’ display card from the CD player before loading your own CDs. B.)   • Page 27 6.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE remote control to begin playback on track 1. The display will show the elapsed playing time of each track as it plays. 7.) Adjust the VOLUME and BASS BOOST controls as desired. 8.) When the last track has played the player stops automatically and the display again shows the total playing time and tracks on the disc.

    SKIP/SEARCH CONTROLS ( To skip to higher or lower numbered tracks during playback repeatedly press the SKIP/SEARCH controls ( ) on the top panel of the main unit or the remote control until the desired track number appears in the display. Playback will begin on the desired track.

    All Tracks Repeat Load the disc as usual and wait until the total playing time and track numbers appear on the display. Press the PRESET UP/REPEAT button twice. The REPEAT indicator remains ‘ On’ . Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin playback. The entire disc will be repeated continuously.

    RANDOM PLAYBACK This feature allows you to play all the tracks on a disc in random order. Load the disc as usual and wait until the display shows the total playing time and number of tracks. Press the RANDOM button on the remote control - there is no RANDOM button on the main unit.

    PROGRAMMED PLAYBACK This system has a 16 track programmable memory. You can program up to 16 tracks on a disc to play back in any desired order. Note: You cannot program the player while a disc is playing. You must press the STOP button first to stop playback before beginning the programming steps below.
  • Page 32 After you have programmed up to 16 tracks, press the PLAY/PAUSE button to begin programmed playback. The MEMORY indicator remains in the display and the tracks you selected will be played in the desired order. After the last programmed track has played the player stops, but the MEMORY indicator remains in the display and the system remains in the programmed playback mode.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS MUTE Button To temporarily shut off the sound from the speakers press the MUTE button on the front panel or the remote control. The display will show “VOL 0” for a few seconds to indicate that the Mute function is ‘ On’ . Press the MUTE button again to cancel Mute and restore the sound.

    SLEEP TIMER This system includes a programmable Sleep Timer that allows you to fall asleep to between 10 and 90 minutes of music and then shuts the power ‘ Off’ automatically. To operate the sleep timer: 1.) Turn the system ‘ On’ and operate either the TUNER or CD function as usual. 2.) Adjust the VOLUME control to the desired level.

    CARE AND MAINYENANCE COMPACT DISC CARE • To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges. • Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’ s recorded surface with a soft cloth.Unlike conventional records, compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles.
