MASTER CYLINDER INSPECTION

[For 1.8L engine RH model]
Check for a cracked master cylinder casting or brake fluid around the
master cylinder. Leaks are indicated only if there is at least a drop of
fluid. A damp condition is not abnormal.
CAUTION:
D Brake master cylinder cannot be disassembled in prin-
ciple. Should primary piston have come off from cylin-
der while dismounting or handling it, wash it in the
same specified fluid as that in reservoir tank and place
it back in cylinder.
D Don't make as flaws and hitted marks on the piston, on
which vacuum seal slides.
WARNING:
Brake master cylinder cannot be disassembled. When any
part of it other than primary piston as described in CAU-
TION above has been disassembled, or when anything
faulty is found in it, it must be replaced as an assembly.
[Other than 1.8L engine RH model]
Check for a cracked master cylinder casting or brake fluid around
the master cylinder. Leaks are indicated only if there is at least a
drop of fluid. A damp condition is not normal.

REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTMENT

Rear brake has self-adjusting mechanism but it does require ad-
justment for proper drum to shoe clearance when brake shoe has
been replaced or brake drum has been removed for some other
service.
Adjustment is automatically accomplished by depressing brake
pedal 3 to 5 times with approximately 30 kg (66 lbs) load after all
parts are installed.
Then check brake drum for dragging and brake system for proper
performance. After lowering vehicle from hoist, brake test should
be performed.
