    Chapter 2: Playing Discs DVD Basics Regional Coding Both the DVD player and the discs are coded by region. These regional codes must match in order for the disc to play. If the codes don’t match, the disc won’t play. This unit’s code is region 1. Discs with other regional codes can’t be played in this unit. Using Different Menus Each disc is programmed with different features.

    Chapter 2: Playing Discs Playback Features Playback operations of DVDs and CDs vary among discs. Since this unit plays DVDs according to the disc contents the software producers designed, some playback features may not be available. Refer to the instructions packed with the DVDs for information.

    Chapter 2: Playing Discs Using the INFO Banner While a disc is playing, press the INFO button on the player or the remote to bring up the Information Banner. The Information Banner shows the status of DVD features and allows you to change them while the disc is playing.

    AUDIO 2/3:AC-3 5.1 CH ENGLISH The Audio Banner Changing the Subtitle Language Use the CC/SUBTITLE button on the remote to change the subtitle language for the current DVD disc. Press CC/SUBTITLE repeatedly to access the subtitle options. As you access an option, the subtitle language changes at that time. To turn subtitles off, press CC/SUBTITLE until the SUBTITLE OFF option appears.

    Chapter 2: Playing Discs Using the Repeat Feature The default mode for the Repeat feature is OFF. Pressing the REPEAT button on the remote repeatedly changes the repeat options: • CHAPTER • TITLE • • REPEAT OFF As you access the repeat options, the repeat option changes at that time. For example, if you access CHAPTER, the chapter will start playing again from the beginning when you get to the end of the chapter.

    Chapter 2: Playing Discs Playing mp3 Discs mp3 is an audio file format which compresses recorded music. It was developed by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in collaboration with Thomson Inc. The main advantage of the mp3 format is that it means CD-quality music tracks can be stored on a personal computer in user-friendly, compressed files.

    Explanation of Rating Limits The DVD Rating Limits feature lets you determine what types of discs can be played in the player, and what types of discs will require a password to override the rating limit that you’ve set. In the U.S., the ratings feature is based on the ratings set up by the MPAA (Motion Pictures Association of America) such as R, PG, G, etc.
